Coincidences

Recently I had a guest in my office who did not know me and was not a client. They were sitting my ‘Dream Suite,’ which is the coaching session room. It also houses my dry erase board. My dry erase board gets a lot of use because I use it as a tool to focus my thoughts when I’m creating things.

The guest looked up at me and asked, “What is it, exactly, that you do?” I forgot I had writing on the board, so I quickly glanced at it to make sure I wasn’t going to be in trouble. The dry erase board had 4 lines:

Reclaim -> Embody -> Lead

Alzheimer’s -> Brain Health

Anxiety -> Calm

Does your calendar reflect your values?

Relieved, I said, “Oh! I forgot I had stuff on the board. This first line is my business framework. I help people Reclaim who they are. Then we work together as they Embody or live into their purpose. Then we work together so they can Lead themselves and others. I’m an internal medicine and pediatric doctor who practices lifestyle medicine. This is my office where I work with people to prevent and reverse disease- almost all disease in the US is preventable and reversible. It takes a lot of work to reverse disease, so I’m also a coach… These other things on the board are webinars I’m going to offer.”

She just looked up at me. I said, yeah, it’s a lot. I shorten it by telling people, “I build relationships that create joy.” I shrugged my shoulders, “Nobody really knows what that means, either.” [pause] “We press on, anyways. It’s the best I got.”

She had been listening intently, and then she said, “The world’s messaging is so different from yours, they may not understand it at first. But when they really think about it, they will know what you said made sense.”

And that, folks, was perhaps the best way I could have started my work week! I’m going to leave you with a quote related to why I practice medicine this way. After you read it, book a coaching visit with me! – Dr. Joe

You ought not attempt to cure the eyes without the head, or the head without the body.

So neither ought you attempt to cure the body without the soul.
