Affirmations vs Action

I’ve always been a little wary of affirmations. Why? Well, sometimes I tend to accept a story I’ve told myself about me.

And, sometimes, I don’t really ask my story any penetrating questions. This can lead to challenging situations. For example, the picture on this blog is from a hike that was unexpectedly challenging.

A quote from Jim Rohn, “Affirmation without discipline is the beginning of delusion.”

I’m proud that I finished this hike. And, I’ve used the feedback from the mountain to reassess my rehab/prehab/training regimen. If you find yourself in a similar situation where a task or project is more difficult than anticipated, show yourself some self-compassion and work on a course correction.

One way I apply course correction and discipline at work is by using the Eisenhower index (pictured below). The Eisenhower index is a practical way to practice, “Don’t let the urgent crowd out the important.”
